Makerspace

You will install, use, and deploy peer to peer social media networks based in the Secure Scuttlebutt Protocol. In contrast with oligopolistic social media and the so called feediverse (like Mastodon), peer to peer social media has no servers and the data, identity and social graph of its inhabitants. 10 people Max, and bring your Laptop with you!
In this workshop we will learn how to install, use, and deploy peer to peer social media networks based in the Secure Scuttlebutt Protocol. In contrast with oligopolistic social media and the so called feediverse (that has Mastodon as a prominent example), peer to peer social media has no servers and the data, identity and social graph of its inhabitants is owned by them (via a pair of private and public keys). In this network, all participants' devices are almost equally able to produce, store and transmit signed public and/or private messages (in what is called blockchains of eventual convergence), which provides an open, secure and resilient protocol and data commons to store the memory of the individuals and communities inhabiting such space, including pending and completed exchanges between network members. The last part is possible because Secure Scuttlebutt has also interesting emergent properties, like being able to store "bearer payment notes" to promote, make visible and eventually scale circular economies of grassroots communities. This is also an scenario where the facilitator will share conceptual prototypes with workshop the participants.
