The project is curated and run by an international group of creatives and mental health professionals as part of the Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship programme. The aim is to implement the project, entitled the ‘Safe in my Body’ during the Tamasha Arts in Health festival which will run globally between the 14- 28th April 2025. The aim of the project is to demonstrate how arts and creative practices can support cancer patients who are separated from their families and communities for prolonged periods of time by enhancing a positive sense of identity, body image and self esteem. The project aims to explore two key areas. Firstly by positively reconnecting patients with their body and experiences through blind drawing, and secondly exploring sense of identity and self esteem through mask making. These two art making workshops will be run within hospital settings in Nairobi by counsellor and psychologist Ann Kajuju Gikunda.
