Moththerapy

The project deals mostly with the question who controls who and who? What does one need to get into a state of flow? Can everybody play an instrument? And of course how to unleash all of one´s mothability. My personal goal was to bring people joy with a musical instrument, even if they did not play before. To find and redesign a device, that is well balanced in randomness (the player cannot do anything "wrong", because the instrument has its own ways) and possiblilties of elaborting one´s style was crucial to include everybody. And with the interaction with the virtual space, I hope to enhance the probability for participants of getting into a state of flow, that musicians can experience. Moththerapy is a new form of therapy merging animal-assisted therapy, musictherapy and hypnosis. The participants can lay their hands onto the mothmeter™, a device that generates a tone of various soundstructures and pitches. It enhances one´s mothability and enables the participant to communicate with Crystal the therapymoth. In phase 1 Crystal reacts to the pitch of the tone with her dance-like flight style. If the participant keeps playing, Crystal initiates phase 2, in which she starts to hypnotize the participant with her mesmerizing stare. If one follows through phase 2, visual as well as acoustic hallucinations can be experienced. This phase will last as long as the participant is willing to play, communicate and experiment with Crystal. One session usually takes between one and five minutes. The participant can extend it as they wish and stop at any time, respectively, or start again.
