Hardware Hacking Area -- Lower

Workshop for building a Tangara, a small, open source hardware MP3 player in the stile of an old Ipod. Registration here: https://events.ztl.space/9cklb/ This is session one of two.
Hello dear MP3-Player enthusiasts and Tangara lovers. Do you prefer to assemble devices yourself rather than buy them ready-made? Attending the #38C3? Have some money to spend? A group of electronics hackers from https://ZTL.space and coredump.ch are offering a Build-Your-Own Tangara workshop at the Hardware Hacking Area, on day 1 only. **To register, please visit [our Pretix instance](https://events.ztl.space/9cklb/)** **Here are the facts** * You will be able to build your own working tangara by placing all the components by hand and baking them in our DIY reflow oven. * We do **not** have the possibility to offer the same high quality case as the original Tangara, but we will bring 3D printed cases. Bring your own if you want! That comes with the unfortunate limitation, that there might be some jank™ and fidling about© because, honestly, our printed cases might be usable, but by far not nearly as perfecly fitting as the original one. * We will give you guidance, help you and support you, but this is by no means a beginners workshop. You should have experience in placing SMD parts and soldering. * The workshop will be conducted in a 4 hour session for 10 people. There will be 2 sessions, so 20 Tangaras in total. You will most likely need the entire time, all 4 hours! Please be aware, that this might be straining for your back, your eyes and your psyche. * Please only take a spot if you are fully commited on attending! We took a big risk with the investment up front to offer this workshop and are assuming that there will be many interested folks. * The worst for last: The costs will be 100€. We try our very best to have everyone leave with a working Tangara, but spare parts are limited, so try to be careful :) **Cost** The parts to build your own Tangara MP3 player is 100€, payable in cash at the event. (Or via paypal) **Prerequisites** * Some experience in manually placing SMD components. * Some experience with soldering. **To bring** Must have: * A notebook, tablet or a smartphone, to work through the build instructions. Optional: * An Allen key 3mm * A Torx T5 key * Small tweezers suitable for picking up SMD components * Headphone with 3.5mm TRS jack for testing purposes * Headphone with Bluetooth for testing purposes **To prepare** Read our beautifully designed installation instructions! You can find everything in our [Tangara WS Github repo](https://events.ztl.space/9cklb/). Here you can also find all STL files required for the Tangara (upper and lower case, battery holder, 3 buttons). **Sponsors** * Thanks to AISLER GmbH Germany (@aislerhq@aisler.social) for sponsoring the PCBs for the tangara! * Thanks to Mitch for sharing space in the hardware hacking area! **WTF is a Tangara?** In case you do not know anything about the MP3 Player Tanagara, please check [the site of the original creators](https://cooltech.zone/tangara/)

I'll bring some fidget toys, talk a little about stimming and accessibility for neurodivergent minds. Please bring your own topics, life-hacks and toys so we can learn from each other! *CN:* Attendees might want to raise topics that can be triggering. These can be discussed in smaller groups where everyone is okay with it.
