ORCA Workshop: A two-dimensional esoteric programming language for livecoding

K1/2 Workshop Valerie Thomas
Heck
Orca is definitely one of the funniest esoteric programming languages. Create some uniqe musical compositions using MIDI and OSC which, as a byproduct are guaranteed to yield a visual experience that will warm the hearts of any nerd or retro-computing lover.
This workshop is accompanying the Orca Installation that will (hopefully) be part of the easterhegg, too. In this Workshop you will learn how to set up Orca and gain first experience with the language and its concepts. The aim is that every attendee will at the end: * Have a working Orca setup on the machine * Is able to fully understand a seemingly complex example * Gets a jumpstart into creating artistic, cute and playful audiovisual mayhem. Orca operates on a base of 36 increments, operators will convert alphanumeric values into values ranging from 0 to 36. Special characters are used to handle platform and client specific interactions. Orca has 28 basic operators, and various platform specific operators to send and receive data. Orca will work on all platforms (with webinterface) and runs also native on all OS. Please bring your Laptop along to attend this workshop properly, ideally have some Orca already installed beforehand (web is fine, too). No prior knowledge is needed and its even questionable if prior programming experience is actually helpful or not. This workshop will be held in English - if really needed some German parts can be provided. --- "Orca feels like the evil musical hybrid of an assembly language, NetHack and Conway's Game Of Life" — FOSS Picks, Linux Pro "Orca is a wildly unique visual programming tool. It's also an inky black and seafoam green alphabet soup, pulsating to some species of broody electronic industrial throb." — Ivan Reese, The Future Of Coding

P1 Workshop Mary G. Ross
The German Science System allows for systematic exploitation of young researchers. Countless scandals from University professors or Max-Planck-Institutes appear in newspapers without effectful consequences. We, and many of our colleagues experienced this first hand. Often, the governance set in place by those institutes is a show-off, no wish for real change. We are a group of physicisits who aim to change the governance in German Science organizations. We elaborated a structured view on how the ...
